HEART
.
A COUPLES' ENRICHMENT
W
EEKEND RETREAT

Brief History & Purpose
.

All couples committed to their relationships and to their partners will be welcomed and valued.

Same-sex and opposite-sex,
married and unmarried.

The purpose of the Heart-to-Heart weekend is to offer all committed couples the opportunity to examine their relationship together -- their strengths and weaknesses, their attitudes, their hurts, desires, ambitions, disappointments, joys and frustrations -- and to do so openly and honestly in a private/safe face-to-face, heart-to-heart encounter.

In the early 1990's, there were many retreats offered for couples, but few or none that included same-sex partners.  And so, a team of four couples decided to go out on their own and the first "Heart-to-Heart" retreat was held in 1994.

Thus began the original concept of the "Heart-to-Heart" Weekend.  It is rooted in the continuing belief that the heart of the family, the couple, mirrors and shapes the future transformation of the world.  It is also rooted in the action taken by a group of people who volunteer their time and who are committed to bringing about change because of their belief that when people connect as people, not labels, they can meet face-to-face to overcome differences in how to define the words "marriage" and "family."
